Re: COVID-19 Update
As many of you may be returning to campus next week, I want to prepare you for the changes that you will see as we work to keep our campus community healthy and safe. As I mentioned in my previous communication, university life will be much different than before spring break.
I ask that you take this pandemic very seriously, knowing that all of our lives at our university depend upon how well we self-manage and how vigilant we are during this crisis.
Social Distancing
Governor Greg Abbott has signed an Executive Order regarding social distancing to which we will strictly adhere. No more than 10 people may gather at one time, and they must be at least 6 feet from one another. This applies everywhere on campus, including your residence.
For students living on campus, please understand that violations of this guidance in rooms/apartments will constitute a lease infraction and could lead to an eviction from your on-campus residence.
Campus Services
Many of our campus buildings will be closed or have limited access. The university will keep buildings open where essential services are provided, such as securing take-out food only in the Memorial Student Center (MSC) and computer labs in the John B. Coleman Library, however, their operating hours will be shortened. Please check the Student FAQs on the Coronavirus Update site at pvamu.edu for updated hours. We will also post them on our official social media platforms, so be sure to follow us.
Dining
We are moving to a grab-and-go service only for dining. For the safety of our students, you will not be able to sit down and dine in the MSC. Meals will be pre-packaged and ready for pickup at the MSC dining hall during the listed hours.
Travel
Students are REQUIRED to report all university and personal travel, taken within the last 14 days, to the university especially if they have traveled to a foreign country. To report personal international travel, please use the following form.
IMPORTANT: Students traveling from countries with CDC risk levels of 2 and 3 MUST self-isolate for a 14-day period from the date of return before returning to school or work. DO NOT come to campus for any reason during this time.
FAQ’s and Other Important Information
We have prepared a list of Frequently Asked Questions for Students and have posted them here: https:/ /www.pvamu.edu/coronavirus/student-faqs/
Please check your official university email frequently for important updates, as well as for information related to your academic coursework.
These measures may seem extreme to some, but our obligation is to make our environment as safe as possible and to make sure that we are following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. Let’s usher in this new normal with the style of true Panthers!
