Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) graduate students and researchers from the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (CAFNR) Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) program participated in the prestigious Texas A&M University (TAMU) Water Day on March 27, 2024. The annual event serves as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among students, researchers, and professionals dedicated to addressing water-related challenges. The students showcased their commitment to environmental management by presenting posters at the event, networking with TAMU researchers, and attending the keynote presentation by Dr. Ali Fares, endowed professor of CAFNR’s Water Security and Water-Food-Energy Nexus. The poster topics were focused on the impact of global warming in Texas and soil sustainability. The students were mentored by Dr. Anoop Valiya Veettil, postdoctoral researcher; Dr. Almoutaz Elhassan, postdoctoral researcher; Dr. Atikur Rahman, research associate professor; Dr. Ripendra Awal, professor; Dr. Ahmed Ahmed, associate professor, and Dr. Ali Fares.

The four graduate students presented the research topics listed below at the conference.

“Evaluating the Effect of Some Climate-Smart Agricultural Practices on Soil Physical Properties” by Catana Faison (PVAMU CAFNR, NRES).

“Analysis of Hydrologic Properties of Sands Amended with Different Levels of Biochar” by Madison Celestine (PVAMU CAFNR, NRES).

“Examining the Fifth National Climate Assessment: Is Texas Heating Up?” by Favour Ezeogu (PVAMU Department of Computer Science).

“Will Texas Stay Dry? An Overview of the Fifth National Climate Assessment at a Climate Division Scale” by Thanmayee Yeluri (PVAMU Department of Computer Science
