On April 1, 2023, the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) held its 10th annual Superintendent Fun Run. The CFISD Fun Run is a fundraising event under the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF), an organization that awards higher education scholarships to graduating high school seniors as well as grants for staff development programs to help provide educational excellence to the children of CFISD. This year, $210,000 was raised.
With over 12,000 people registered, the event featured a 5k run and a 1-mile walk, including CFISD staff and community members. Over 70 vendors were on hand to offer support and showcase their services, including Memorial Herman Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Methodist Hospital, Excel Urgent Care, Star Therapy, National Dental, and PV Wellness in Houston’s partners from the College of Nursing. Our PV Wellness in Houston’s College of Nursing (CON) partners educated attendees on the importance of monitoring blood pressure and offered on-site screenings. Participants learned how to interpret what the blood pressure reading means, how it relates to their overall health, and how to improve and maintain a normal blood pressure range. The American Heart Association (AHA) provided a checklist to distribute to participants that promotes heart health. Kiara Ford, Extension Associate of the CON conducted 35 blood pressure screenings.
The PV Wellness in Houston CON team also played a game with attendees featuring a fun way to get their bodies moving, promoting heart healthy activity. Participants had to use only their feet to get a ball inside a hula-hoop. In all, about 8,000 event attendees learned about what PV Wellness in Houston has to offer.
