PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View Ag Alumni Chapter would like to invite graduates from the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS) to join the group and contribute to its increased efforts to support the college and its students.

Chapter President E.W. Wesley says the group meets online every third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. In the past, they have provided financial assistance for students attending conferences and scholarship aid, but that is an area they would like to grow further.

“One of our goals is to engage the students more often,” Wesley said. “A few of us attended Ag Field Day, and we would like to be present for more activities to meet students. We want to be there as mentors to provide guidance for them and recruit other students to join the college.”

The group is creating a scholarship endowment fund for CAHS that will serve as a reliable option for financial aid. By increasing membership, the group can create different committees to achieve chapter goals. Alums of all ages may bring innovative ideas to the team and open a wealth of opportunities for engagement.

Wesley graduated from Prairie View A&M University in 1971. For his graduating class’ golden anniversary in 2021, they presented a check to the university for over $200,000 to establish the Class of 1971 Endowed Scholarship Fund. Wesley hopes that increased membership will provide more opportunities to donate funding to the CAHS.

“We need everyone’s help to be there for our students,” Wesley said. “We need new members to bring plenty of ideas to the table to increase our contributions. If any CAHS graduate believes that the college had a positive impact on their professional development and career, consider joining the chapter and carrying on the legacy of ‘Prairie View Producing Productive People.’”

Joining the chapter costs $60.00 annually, and membership runs from September 1 through August 31. If a person pays for a membership in the last quarter of the chapter’s fiscal year (June, July, and August), then the membership is valid through August 31 of the following year.
