On Friday, January 13, Prairie View A&M University Wellness in Houston partnered with Blackwood Educational Land Institute for Volunteer Day at the SkyFarm. The sustainable organic farm is on the rooftop of the cultural center, POST Houston.

Extension Associates, Carley Howell and Teisha Holliman aided in beautifying the garden, repairing the irrigation system, and planning an upcoming Educational Farmers Market to be held on “Wellness” Wednesdays.

The Farmers Market will not only provide fresh and local produce for its consumers but also recipes and food demonstrations on how to prepare healthy meals. By improving access to healthy foods, we are encouraging families to adopt and adapt to healthier lifestyle choices.

The Sky Farm is about 1 acre. Wellness in Houston will be returning to the farm regularly for upkeep.
