September 6 – Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) has partnered with Greece’s Perrotis College to foster a new collaboration that benefits students at both institutions.

PVAMU Provost, James Palmer, Ph.D., and Perrotis College Provost Nikos Kiritsis, Ph.D., met Monday, August 30, 2021 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which signifies the beginning of this networking alliance that will marry the interests of the colleges and create unique opportunities for scholars.

Palmer said the MOU points to a sustainable partnership; the two schools’ shared values and strong points of connection will offer mutually beneficial opportunities.

“Like PVAMU, Perrotis College seeks to provide degree programs that are both research-based and practically-oriented, and which respond to public, social, economic, and environmental concerns,” Dr. Palmer said. “And it seeks to promote equal opportunity for students and employees.”

PVAMU has a focused interest in expanding its reach internationally and investing in programs that address challenges affecting the diverse ethnic populations of Texas and larger societies, including the global arena.

Kiritsis said the only way this partnership will be beneficial is if the students’ needs are front and center.

“I am looking for the opportunity to give students this idea that the world is too small, and for us to be successful, we have to collaborate with other people that have the same problems we have,” Kiritsis said.

Perrotis College is the higher education wing of the American Farm School of Thessaloniki, Greece.

Both schools’ similar interests include agriculture, student mobility, and faculty collaborations. Palmer and Kiritsis expect the collaboration to open doors for opportunities like miniature semesters abroad for students at both schools and short-term faculty appointments in the future.
