Program Overview

The minor in Real estate is an 18-credit-hour program that will add to your versatility of skills and knowledge as well as give you the foundation you need to springboard into a career in real estate or dabble in real estate on the side. After completing the program, students will be eligible to sit for the Salesperson license exam[1] and will be well on their way to obtaining a Real Estate Broker license if they choose to pursue it. The minor program is also designed to expose students to a variety of industry-specific knowledge, internship opportunities and network with veteran real estate professionals.

It really depends on what your major is. Students pursuing a business major may only have to take 9 extra hours to complete the minor. Because any two courses (6 sch) among BLAW 2301, REST 3311, REST 3322, and REST 3325 can be used to satisfy requirements for a minor in Real Estate as well as a business major requirement simultaneously.

It depends on when you join the program and where you are in the other program you may be pursuing. Some of the courses in the minor program have to be taken in sequence, and not all of the courses are offered every semester. So, finishing college within the shortest period of time will require planning and foresight on the students’ part.

Although we are considering the possibility but at this juncture, this is not a certification program. Therefore you need to be admitted into the university to join the minor program. There is also a minimum GPA requirement for admission into the College of Business. Contact us or speak with your adviser to learn more about it.

Although one of our goals is to offer all the courses online, we are not there yet. Currently, some, but not all, of the required courses of the minor are offered online.

Although not all the classes required for the minor come with prerequisites, some do. Just click on the required courses in the “Courses” link to find their descriptions and any prerequisites a particular course may require.

Courses accepted for transfer must be from a college or university accredited by one of the regional accredited agencies for higher education. All students must meet with their department head prior to changing their major, adding/deleting a major, minor or an additional degree. Pick up the form to add a minor from the Registrar’s Office or fill out the “Change of Major, Addition/Deletion of Major, Addition/Deletion of Minor” form online on PV Place and submit it via DocuSign. Online submission of the form come with the benefit of being automatically routed to the proper authorities for approvals. However, if you fill out the paper form, then take the form to the department of Accounting, Finance, and MISY of the College of Business in the Ag & Bus building and obtain the Department head’s signature. Take the signed form back to the Office of the Registrar.
