PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (May 9, 2023) – For graduating senior Jordan Poston, getting involved and building relationships were central to his experience at Prairie View A&M University.

Jordan Poston

“Participating in extracurricular activities in college has had a significant positive impact on my personal growth and development. I developed new skills and interests, built social connections, enhanced my leadership and teamwork skills, improved my time management, and, most importantly, gained professional experience,” he said.

Poston was involved in Panther Advisor Leaders, Student Government Association, Phi Beta Lambda, and Men Achieving Leadership Excellence (M.A.L.E.) mentoring program.

“My greatest achievement while at PVAMU was being a mentor,” Poston said. “I quickly learned that the key to being a great mentor is to lead by example. Doing that forced me to work on the qualities that I was slacking in. My mentees held me to a high standard that fueled my drive to be the best version of myself. We were feeding and leaning on each other. I couldn’t be prouder of my mentees.”

The marketing major earned a number of titles in his time at PVAMU, including Mr. College of Business (2021-22), Mr. Senior (2022-23), and President of Phi Beta Lambda. And you might just call him “Mr. Accenture,” too. Poston participated in the Accenture Level Up program, an exclusive partnership with PVAMU, then completed an internship there. After graduation, he will head to Houston to start his fulltime job with the Fortune Global 500 company.

“My internships provided me with a lot of corporate experience and gave me a look into the day-to-day responsibilities I will have upon graduation,” he said. “They also helped me to discover some of the skills and tools I’ll need in order to be successful in the business world. I had a lot of networking opportunities that led to securing my job after graduation. And I am eager to get out into the business world so I can keep learning.”

“The university does a fantastic job creating relationships with top companies,” Poston added. “They do a great job with promoting the career fair and getting us prepared before we attended it. A lot of the people that come back to the career fair to recruit are alumni.”

Poston knows that bonds among the University community run deep. “Prairie View A&M feels like a family,” he said. “I love everything about PVAMU, but I love the family aspect the most.”

Poston’s own family helped deepen that feeling; his older brother Jonathan is a 2020 PVAMU graduate, while his younger brother Joshua is a current student. “My older brother was a big reason why I wanted to attend PVAMU. I saw firsthand how much he loved the university and all of the opportunities he had, and I just knew I would love it as well,” he said.

“The students and the alumni really care for each other and the university. You can find PVAMU alumni anywhere you go and it’s always all love. We take pride in making it known that we either attend or graduated from this illustrious university because it is the place to be,” he said.

Poston’s advice to current students? “Take the time to get involved. Networking goes a long way here at the University.”
