2020 has been a challenging year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the economic downturn, and national social unrest, among other factors. With Election Day fast approaching, it is important that you have an opportunity to go to the polls to exercise your right and responsibility to participate in elections. State employees can utilize leave of absence with pay to vote, but students may be challenged with finding time between classes and other campus obligations.

To support employees and students to take advantage of their constitutional rights to vote, Prairie View A&M University, including the Northwest Houston Center and the College of Nursing, will shift to reduced operations at noon on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Essential personnel will remain on site. The University will return to our normal operation and schedule on Wednesday, November 4.

Essential units include:
Health Services
Housing and Residence Life
Willie A. Tempton, Sr. Memorial Student Center (MSC)
Transportation/Shuttle Services
University Police Department
Center for Information Technology Excellence (CITE)
Facilities Services (SSC)

Faculty will reschedule or extend assignment deadlines to accommodate the closure, and class lectures may be rescheduled or recorded and posted to eCourses for students to ensure courses remain on track. Many courses in the core curriculum and across the major address personal and social responsibility learning outcomes. Exercising the right to vote in an informed way reinforces what is being done in the classroom to meet these objectives.

The Office of Human Resources will provide Workday leave reporting guidance to supervisors and employees who are paid bi-weekly.
