PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (June 5, 2026) – For nearly 150 years, Prairie View A&M University graduates have carried the University’s mission into every field and every region, advancing industries, strengthening communities, and reflecting the values of excellence and service that define PVAMU. Their impact is both part of PVAMU’s history and a continuing expression of what it means to be a Panther.
To recognize that ongoing impact, the University is highlighting alumni through the Distinguished Alumni Awards – Legends of Excellence. These honors elevate graduates who have distinguished themselves through professional achievement, leadership, service, philanthropy, and lifelong commitment to Prairie View A&M University. As part of this milestone year, the awards celebrate individuals whose legacies reflect the very best of PVAMU across generations.
Over time, PVAMU has produced leaders who have transformed industries, advanced communities, and upheld the University’s mission of excellence and service. Recognizing outstanding alumni allows the University to honor achievement, celebrate generational impact, inspire current and future Panthers, and strengthen alumni engagement during this historic moment.
As Vice President for University Advancement Jeff Shaw notes, this milestone underscores the importance of recognizing those whose lives embody the University’s mission:
“As Prairie View A&M University approaches its sesquicentennial, marking 150 years of excellence, the Distinguished Alumni Awards – Legends of Excellence carry special meaning in this historic milestone year. This celebration offers an opportunity to honor alumni whose achievements reflect the resilience and excellence of the University.
The Distinguished Alumni Awards will recognize graduates who have demonstrated outstanding success in their professions, meaningful service to their communities, philanthropy, and a lasting commitment to Prairie View A&M University. These honorees embody the very spirit of the institution and stand as living examples of 150 years of impact,” he said.
The Distinguished Alumni Awards – Legends of Excellence include honors for professional achievement, public service and civic leadership, service to the University, philanthropic leadership, early career distinction, and lifetime achievement. Each category reflects a different expression of leadership, but together they highlight a shared truth: PVAMU alumni continue to lead, serve, and give back in ways that extend the University’s mission far beyond campus.
Nominations are currently open through June 15, 2026. Alumni, friends, and supporters are encouraged to participate in this milestone celebration by submitting nominations and helping to recognize those who define excellence at PVAMU.
