The Marshal’s Office in Toruń was visited by members of the American gospel choir Prairie View A&M University Concert Chorale from Texas, who on Friday and Sunday (August 31 and September 2) performed during the Nova Music and Architecture festival. Musicians will perform in the near future also in Inowrocław (September 5) and in the Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz (September 9).

The choir could be heard on Friday in the church of St. Spirit during a concert of traditional songs Negro spirituals and on Sunday at the Marshal Concerto ending the festival. Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” and parts of Bernstein’s “West Side Story” were heard. Yesterday, the choristers met with Marshal Piotr Całbecki, for whom they presented the rehearsal of their unique vocal abilities.
The choir has been active for more than 100 years at the university, which is part of the Texas A&M University System team came to the invitation of Mariusz Smolja, the artistic director of the Toruń Symphony Orchestra. The visit of choristers in Toruń is part of the intensively developing cooperation between the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and the state of Texas in the fields of agriculture, science, youth exchange, culture, and others.
