PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (July 8, 2021) – Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) alumna Cecilia Crear, Ed.D., ’95, ‘01, began her new role this summer as Alief I.S.D.’s area superintendent. Crear, who received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology and master’s degree in educational administration from PVAMU, said she is excited about her new journey.

“I’m overjoyed that I have this opportunity,” she said, “because, at the end of the day, it’s about impact. For me, that’s my life’s work. I’m always about impact. I want to make other people better as a result of my presence.”

According to Crear, area superintendents are responsible for ensuring the mission and vision of the superintendent are met. The primary focus is to work with campus administrators and principals, specifically, to support them in achieving goals for their campuses that align with the district’s goals.

“I cannot wait to start this journey and see the impact we will have on students academically, socially and emotionally,” said Crear. “I love Alief. I grew up as a teacher and leader here. I have to give credit to this district for my successes because this is where my foundation was laid.”

Crear has spent her career making an impact as an educator in school districts across Texas.  Before being named area superintendent for Alief I.S.D., Crear served as a math teacher in the district at Alief Elsik High School. She also held roles as the associate principal of instruction and assistant principal at Alief Taylor High School. While working in Fort Bend I.S.D., which is among the largest school districts in the state, she was named the 2018 Secondary Principal of the Year. Crear most recently served as executive director of Secondary Schools in Fort Bend.

“’There’s no place like home,’” said Crear about returning to Alief. “I’m ready to pay it forward and pour into leaders just like so many did for me.”

During her time at PVAMU, Crear said she had professors that inspired her to become the woman she is today. For example, she had a professor who recognized her public speaking gift and ability to capture the audience’s attention.

“Whenever I’m talking to someone or speaking to a captive audience, I try to choose my words to make sure I keep them on the edge of their seats, from top to bottom,” said Crear. “But, that was because that professor dropped that nugget in me.”

As a student, Crear enjoyed her time at PVAMU, running on the track team and making memorable friendships to last a lifetime.

“Prairie View was just everything for me. The camaraderie, getting to know new people from new places, but people that really looked like me,” she said. “PV was and continues to be an amazing place because of the experiences, the opportunities provided, the long-lasting friendships and the close-knit community that’s nothing short of family.”
