Become a PV Panther
In 2020, PVAMU’s Department of Social Work embraced today’s challenges and created a transformative program to solve the physical and mental health problems of our generation. We are the only MSW program in Texas to deliver an Africentric curriculum that provides training in evidence-based interventions, research, and theory. Our curriculum will transform you into a professional in advanced clinical social work with a specialization in Medical Social Work/Behavioral Health. Are you eligible to become part of HBCU history at Prairie View A&M University?
Wear Your Shoes
Put your shoes on! Glass ceilings are shattered. HBCU alumni are stepping into leadership positions everywhere. Now’s your turn.
People say, “The best way to understand someone is to walk a mile in their shoes.” This is the path to becoming a servant-leader. Many MSW students take years struggling to force their feet into the shoes of our clients. Not you!
You fit their shoes and joyfully sprint two miles with our clients toward their goal.
You’ll come to PV with story after story of overcoming challenges. Our faculty and Africentric curriculum will make you even better prepared to answer your higher calling to serve others. It’s what we do!

Medical Social Work
Medical Social Workers are among the highest-paid social workers in the profession, averaging $50,000 to $90,000 per year in Texas. These jobs are also in high demand. Our curriculum and internships will prepare students to work in rapidly growing hospitals and health care systems. We collaborate across disciplines and partner with Texas Medical Center and other medical centers within the country and globally. Additionally, the MSW program strives to support students’ education and training, to assist individuals, families, communities, groups, and organizations experiencing physical and mental health issues.
