Roby W. Hilliard Sr. Memorial Scholarship
A $3000 scholarship for the 2018-2019 year may be available for one outstanding, incoming, a first-time freshman majoring in the Department of Languages and Communication. With good academic standing, completion of a specified number of credit hours in the major, and continued availability of funds, the recipient can renew the award for 3 additional years for a total of $12,000.
Requirements
- Unconditional admission to PVAMU
- Minimum SAT score of 820 (math + verbal) or ACT composite of 17 OR top 10% admission
- Minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Declared major in Communication or English
Preference
Graduate of Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas
Paperwork to Submit
- Completed Languages + Communication Scholarship Application
- Letter explaining academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and especially your financial need (there is space in the Application for this letter)
- Unofficial copies of test scores and your high school transcript
- Copy of your admission letter to PVAMU
Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, April 27, 2018 to meet University deadlines. Students who do not meet ALL of the requirements listed above will not be considered by the scholarship committee.

2012 Meeting of the Hilliard Family and Scholars
On September 6, 2012, the Hilliard family returned to Prairie View A&M, eager to meet the three current Hilliard Scholars in person. The first scholarship recipient, Jasmine Casnel, graduated on time in May 2012 with her B.A. in Mass Communication, and the Scholars still on The Hill continue to impress.

2009 Roby W. Hilliard, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Donation
On March 10, 2009, Mr. David W. & Mrs. Macel J. Hilliard and their daughter Ms. Melanie V. Manning (not pictured) donated $3,000.00 each to the Department of Languages and Communication. The Roby W. Hilliard, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was established by the family in memory of their distinguished relative, for whom Hilliard Hall is named. The $6,000.00 gift will be matched by their employer. Receiving the checks are Dr. Danny Kelley, Dean of Arts and Sciences and Dr. Dejun Liu, Dept. Head for Languages and Communication.
