Are you a first-generation college student? If so, what does that mean to you?

I will be a first-generation college graduate, and it is a feeling that I can’t really explain. It hasn’t hit me yet because I’ve been in school for so long, but I definitely shed a few tears when I received my graduation approval letter.

Which organizations were you a part of at PVAMU? How did they deepen your college experience?

I was a part of BSM (Baptist Student Movement), PVGC (Prairie View Gospel Choir), NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), NAACP, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America Incorporated. Being a part of these organizations groomed and sharpened me in various ways. I was able to learn my strengths and weaknesses, what I like and don’t like, and how to work effectively in a team. I held positions that pushed me to be a better leader and follower, with an understanding of doing whatever it takes to get the job done.

Where did you intern?

I’ve had internships at New Light Christian Center, A&A Production Company, Harvuni J Studios, and Charles Schwab. My internships provided light to a dark place that I had about my career goals and what I wanted to do after graduating from college. I was able to experience hands-on tasks, along with technology-driven positions, which guided me in the direction that I needed to go.

What are your career goals?

My career aspirations are being somewhere that I can grow and be happy every time I clock in. I believe in doing what you love. I agree that money that is great to have, but I’d rather have happiness, quality time with family and friends, and the ability to go church on Sunday.

What do you love most about PVAMU?

PVAMU has the spirit of a grandmother that wants you to be successful. You will always have that helping hand to pick you up. It is also an institution that doesn’t believe in giving handouts, which is perfect for me because I believe in putting in the work to achieve your goals. One hundred percent, PVAMU has shaped me into a man of undeniable faith and resilience.

Plus, I love the fact that PVAMU is in the country. When I lived in Phase 1, I would sit on the balcony and watch the sunset, or I would open my window to let the breeze enter my room. It was literally the “Golden Time of Day.” (Shout out to Frankie Beverly & Maze)

What has been your greatest accomplishment while attending PVAMU?

My greatest achievement at PVAMU would have to be receiving a full-time offer from Charles Schwab following my internship. I was also a feature story for Charles Schwab during that internship.

Any advice to current students?

Never see failure as you being defeated, but take it as an opportunity to strengthen your weaknesses. PV! YOU KNOW!
