PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – For D’Sya Greenwood, graduating from Prairie View A&M University’s College of Nursing represents more than academic achievement—it is the realization of purpose, perseverance, and a deep commitment to serving others.
A first-generation college student and the first in her family to enter the medical field, Greenwood’s journey has been marked by resilience, independence, and unwavering determination. Without a clear path to follow, she navigated the rigor of nursing school while balancing family responsibilities, developing the discipline and strength that now define her as a future nurse.
“I chose Prairie View A&M University School of Nursing because of its strong reputation for producing exceptional nurses,” Greenwood shared. “Whenever I hear about PV nurses, it is always accompanied by admiration for how professionally and compassionately they carry themselves. I wanted to be shaped by that excellence.”
Her calling to nursing is rooted in compassion and service. “I believe I have a genuine gift for serving others,” she said. “Nursing allows me to be a source of comfort, strength, and light during some of the most vulnerable moments in people’s lives.”
Throughout her clinical experiences, Greenwood distinguished herself as a student who not only learned nursing but lived it. Faculty and clinical partners consistently recognized her professionalism, engagement, and dedication to patient care. “D’Sya is a dedicated, compassionate student nurse who genuinely cared for her patients,” shared Dr. Carol H. Prosper, clinical assistant professor at PVAMU’s College of Nursing. “She showed willingness to learn in every aspect of the clinical rotation. She wasn’t just learning the art of nursing; she was already living it. Excellent student.”
Assistant Professor Dr. Antonea’ Jackson echoed this sentiment, noting, “D’Sya is a mild-mannered but thoughtful and compassionate student with a palpable passion for women’s health. She represents the very essence of a PV nursing graduate.”
Clinical partners within the Texas Medical Center also praised her performance, highlighting her professionalism, eagerness to learn, and strong work ethic. A charge nurse shared, “She asked thoughtful questions, actively participated in patient care, and demonstrated a positive attitude throughout the experience. It was clear she genuinely wanted to learn and make the most of every opportunity. She will make an excellent nurse.”
Greenwood’s commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom. She received a letter of recognition from her clinical preceptor for her professionalism and patient care, as well as a Going the Extra Mile (GEM) award for her initiative and dedication in the workplace. She has also remained actively engaged in community service through her church, participating in outreach initiatives that support families and individuals in need.
Looking ahead, Greenwood is pursuing a career in women’s health, specifically Labor and Delivery, inspired by the stories her mother shared about the nurses who made a lasting impact during childbirth. “I want to provide not just safe care, but a positive and reassuring experience during such an important moment in someone’s life,” she shared.
As she prepares to enter the profession, D’Sya Greenwood stands as a powerful example of what it means to be a Prairie View nurse—grounded in purpose, driven by compassion, and prepared to lead with excellence.
