Exhibit-WHEREAS, They Endeavored: Texas’ 19th Century Legislators

This exhibit highlights the 52 freeborn and newly emancipated lawmakers who served as convention delegates and representatives to the Texas House during Reconstruction. From 1857-1874, these leaders defied the odds and endeavored to advance Texas’ continued prosperity.
