We know that in order for students to thrive and persist, all students must have a sense of belonging, feel connected, understand that they matter, and feel heard – the result of which is retention of students. Transfer students attending PVAMU will be considered their own borderless community while simultaneously being integrated into their other applicable community with residential and commuter students.

Students benefit from programming designed to assist with navigating campus, utilizing vital academic support resources, acclimating to campus culture, integrating into campus life, and career exploration.

Some of the programs supported by Transfer Student Experience are:

  • New Student Orientation (includes transfer students)
  • Transfer Summer Cluster Groups
  • Transfer Student Ambassadors
  • Student Organization(s)
  • Transfer Student Mixers
  • Week of Welcome – Fall & Spring
  • National Transfer Student Week
  • Monthly Workshops and Programming
  • Transfer Resources and Events

By participating, transfer students will:

  • Gain knowledge of the PVAMU community, resources, and departments
  • Expand their understanding of themselves within the context of the PVAMU community
  • Establish a sense of belonging on campus
  • Connect with opportunities to become involved and engaged at PVAMU
  • Develop relationships with other students, transfer student leaders, and staff members
  • Gain a knowledge of the academic and social support resources available to PVAMU students
  • Develop strategies for navigating the rest of their PVAMU experience
