Transfer Student Ambassadors (TSA) offer support and guidance to incoming transfer students. They are dedicated to ensuring that transfer students have a smooth transition into PVAMU all while achieving academic excellence, social adjustment, and personal accountability.

Incoming transfer students will engage in group programming that allows them grow their PVAMU network.

Position Description
Each year the Department for Student Experience selects a group of mature and dedicated undergraduate leaders to assist with implementing the mission of PVAMU. In this capacity, Transfer Student Ambassadors serves as peer advisors and resource persons to new students during their transition in PVAMU.

The Transfer Student Ambassadors fulfill the mission of the Department for Student Experience through their strong commitment to aid students and parents in their smooth transition to PVAMU. A Transfer Student Ambassador Leaders are members of the Department for Student Experience student staff and are dedicated to ensuring that all incoming transfer students have a smooth transition into PVAMU all while achieving academic and social excellence, accountability, and mentorship. Preparing each individual for challenges affecting the diverse ethnic and socioeconomic world by making tomorrow’s leaders today.

Transfer Student Ambassadors are supervised by staff members within the Department for Student Experience Office.

Applicant Qualifications

To apply for the Transfer Student Ambassador position, a student:

  • Must have completed 12 credits at PVAMU by the end of the Spring semester.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher at the end of the Spring semester.
    • This GPA minimum requirement must be maintained during the term of employment.
  • Must be registered as a PVAMU degree-seeking undergraduate student for at least 12 credits during both the Spring & Fall semesters.
  • Must be in good standing with PVAMU and the Office of Student Conduct (i.e. no disciplinary probation, etc.).
  • Must be available to attend Transfer Student Ambassador Leadership training and supplemental activities during the Spring semester. Weekly training sessions will be scheduled and communicated throughout the semester, must have flexibility in their course schedule to accommodate training sessions.
  • Must have effective communication, leadership, customer service and organizational skills.
  • Must have a positive attitude and an ability to work as a team member.
  • Must have respect for and appreciation of, the diversity of the incoming PVAMU student population.
  • Must be willing to work/volunteer daytime, evening and weekend hours as scheduled.
  • Ideally, available between May –August for New Student Orientation (NSO).
  • Ideally, available to assist with recruitment events as scheduled by the Office of Admissions and Recruitment.

Transfer Student Ambassadors:

  • Help new transfer students integrate successfully to life at PVAMU

  • Provide support to students by answering questions about the social and academic aspects of PVAMU

  • Teach new students PVAMU history & traditions
  • Act as a resource to both students and parents
  • Serve as a peer guide to new students
  • Develop and implement programming that helps transfer students engage in the PVAMU community

Interested in Becoming a TSA?

As a TSA you will develop leadership, interpersonal communication, and social skills. You will also gain in-depth knowledge of PVAMU resources, history, and traditions all while building significant relationships with fellow Transfer Ambassadors, new students, and PV faculty/staff members.

Students must meet the following requirement to become a TSA:

  • Full completion of the TSA application

  • A minimum GPA of 2.8 (each semester)

  • Participation in a brief interview

  • Successful completion of trainings
