  • The Texas State Initiative Assessment (TSIA) or TSI for short, is a state-legislated program that provides assistance with reading, writing, and mathematics skills of students entering Texas public colleges and universities. The program consists of testing, placement, and developmental education for students who do not pass one or more sections of the assessment. There are several testing options, as well as exemptions, and waivers outlined by the state mandate.
  • For information regarding registering, payment, or vouchers for a TSI test, contact our Testing Services.

  • Parents and family members may attend New Student Orientation.  However, we ask that guests be limited to two people other than the student seeking enrollment.

Freshmen advising is completed during New Student Orientation. Please note that freshmen do not have the opportunity to choose their own courses, but the appropriate courses will be assigned by a professional advisor based on the student’s degree plan.  Parents are not allowed to accompany their student during the freshmen advising session.  The advisor will ensure that a student’s schedule is revised/updated based on any coursework previously completed prior to enrollment. If Transfer Students have had all of their transcripts sent to the University and courses have been articulated, the students may contact their respective department to register for courses.

Students may submit information online to request their PVAMU student identification card.  Details about the process are given during New Student Orientation and also are available on the Auxiliary Services website Panther Card.

  • All newly admitted undergraduate students are expected to attend New Student Orientation, either face to face or virtually. Email us at NSO@pvamu.edu for additional questions or concerns.

Free parking is provided for students and their guests participating in New Student Orientation.  Details regarding parking will be included in the welcome letter about a week prior to the respective orientation date.

Students and parents are on their own for lunch at NSO.
