PVAMU strengthens the construction workforce pipeline through hands-on apprenticeship opportunities
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (September 24, 2026) – Prairie View A&M University has been selected as one of three sites for the Aggie Construction Management Apprenticeship Program (Aggie-CMAP).
As a land-grant Historically Black University with a long-standing commitment to equipping job-ready graduates, Prairie View’s role in Aggie-CMAP reflects its broader mission to prepare students for high-demand fields.
Through the apprenticeship program, PVAMU is helping build a skilled, diverse pipeline of construction management professionals ready to tackle the needs of the industry.
Bruce Bockhorn, MBA, PhD, director of construction science, is leading the Prairie View site team, working in coordination with the broader Aggie-CMAP team at Texas A&M University (TAMU) to ensure the program’s success from recruitment through completion.
On the recruitment side, Dr. Bockhorn and his team are driving program marketing activities for the Prairie View site, alongside Shelley Smith at TAMU, to successfully identify and enroll trainees in the program. Dr. Bockhorn is also coordinating with the TAMU team to hire qualified instructors who will deliver the Aggie-CMAP curriculum at Prairie View.
Beyond recruitment and instruction, Dr. Bockhorn and his team are responsible for collecting and tracking performance data at the Prairie View site, ensuring the program continues to improve as it grows.
