Over one-hundred and sixty Prairie View A&M University leaders and planners assembled on April 22, 2015, from 8 to 4 p.m., for the 2015 Strategic Planning Summit in the Willie A. Tempton, Sr., Memorial Student Center. The theme was “The Best Is Yet To Come: Reimagining and Reinventing to Provoke Greater Growth and Quality.” Leaders came together to benefit from presentations by vice presidents on achievements made between 2010-15, to examine current University data along with national, state, and local initiatives that affect the University’s future, and to facilitate broad-based involvement in planning for the next strategic plan for 2015-2020.

Special guest speakers included Mr. Kevin McGinnis, Executive Director, Risk Management and Benefits Administration, Texas A&M University System, and Mr. Harry E. Johnson, Sr., President/CEO, The Memorial Foundation. McGinnis’ presentation focused on demographics data showing PVAMU’s enrollment and trends in the Texas population, including projected population changes between 2010 and 2040. Johnson shared his experiences raising more than $100 million needed to complete the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial on the National Mall in Washington D. C. He offered participants ideas for creating partnerships and increasing fundraising opportunities.

After lunch, participants broke into two groups, one to examine “The Federal Influence: PVAMU Facing a Changing Higher Educational Paradigm” and another “The Texas Influence: PVAMU Facing Rising Expectations for Participation, Success, Excellence and Research.”  Following these sessions, participants divided into smaller focus groups to brainstorm ways to advance growth and quality, specifically targeting enrollment, student success and excellence, customer service and environment, communication, and technology.

The 2015 Planning Summit was organized and hosted by the Office for Institutional Accreditation with assistance from the Office for Business Affairs.
