PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (December 9, 2019) – Prairie View A&M University alumna Freweini Mebrahtu has been named the 2019 CNN Hero of the Year. Mebrahtu earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from PVAMU in 1992. She has dedicated her life to keeping girls in school by designing a reusable menstrual pad and trying to end the cultural stigma around the issue.
