The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: 5.0 - Summer Series is a structured professional development initiative designed to support non-supervisory staff in strengthening core competencies aligned with Prairie View A&M University’s institutional priorities. This initiative equips employees with the essential skills and tools to get work done with and through other people. The content helps learners sustain lasting success by effectively leading themselves, influencing others, engaging and collaborating with others, and continually improving and renewing their capabilities.

Join us for the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: 5.0, and learn the foundations of the 7 Habits, including the course promise, the definition of effectiveness, See-Do-Get, Principles of Effectiveness, and the Maturity Continuum. You will also determine how you want to be more effective in your personal and professional lives - a commitment that will be a recurring focus for the experience.

Learn to:

  • Habit 1: Be Proactive – Learn the difference between proactive and reactive behavior, how to focus on your Circle of Influence, and how to use proactive language.

  • Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind – Learn about determining the purpose of everything you set out to do before you start, and writing a draft of your Personal Mission Statement.

  • Habit 3: Put First Things First – Learn to think about how you are spending time in each of your roles, how to plan the week around Big Rocks, and how to stay true in the moment of choice.

  • Habit 4: Think Win-Win – Learn how the Private Victory prepares you for the Public Victory, and begin to consider the health of your relationships through the metaphor of the Emotional Bank Account. You will also learn the value of adopting an abundance mindset rather than a scarcity mindset, balancing courage and consideration, and considering other wins.

  • Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood - Learn about listening empathetically rather than autobiographically – with the intent to understand rather than the intent to reply. You will also learn to respectfully seek to be understood.

  • Habit 6: Synergize! – Learn how to value differences that lead to better solutions and the four steps to synergy that can help you make creative collaboration a habit.

  • Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw – Learn how to take care of yourself so you are better able to deal with life and contribute. Finally, you will be able to identify the first steps you will take to make progress on becoming more effective
