TITLE: BARRIERS TO TELEMEDICINE

ABSTRACT: Telemedicine is a viable option to improve patients’ medical outcomes and health disparities. This technology is a cost-effective alternative to in-person medical treatments. It should be used as supplemental medical care to alleviate the population’s stress on the medical infrastructure in the upcoming decades. The research method for this study was a survey to investigate the patient population’s intention to use telemedicine and assess the factors that may assess the patients’ telemedicine usage choices. The survey assessed four main variables: age, loss of income, trust in doctors, and time lost. The results are valuable to the healthcare industry, lawmakers, social workers, community activists, and family caregivers, who bear the burden of helping loved ones with their medical treatments.

Keywords: telemedicine, healthcare/health disparities, cost-effective, opportunity cost, trust in physicians.
