TITLE: DETERMINANTS OF TRUCK DRIVER RETENTION IN SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED TRUCKING COMPANIES

ABSTRACT: Turnover among drivers continues to pose significant labor challenges for small and medium-sized trucking firms, resulting in increased costs related to recruiting and training new employees, underutilized vehicles, delayed deliveries, and instability in organizations. The main goal of this proposed quantitative research is to explore the financial, working, and organizational variables affecting the retention of truck drivers in companies that own and operate from 2 to 100 power units. Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory will be used as the basis of the study and will help to investigate such hygiene variables as pay, perks, home time, scheduling, vehicle conditions, safety procedures, and relationships with supervisors, as well as motivators, such as recognition, accountability, training, and career growth. The data will be gathered using two separate surveys, one conducted with drivers and another – with managers or business owners responsible for employing and retaining drivers. Such an approach will help to contrast the experience of truck drivers with the perspective of management in relation to their employment and retention practices. The ordinal logistic regression will help to establish whether some of these factors are significantly linked to the order of likelihood that drivers leave the company.
