This exhibit highlights the 52 freeborn and newly emancipated lawmakers who served as convention delegates and representatives to the Texas House during Reconstruction. From 1857-1874, these leaders defied the odds and endeavored to advance Texas’ continued prosperity.

In celebration of Black History Month, K-12 Partnership and Outreach will invite students in grades 3-12 to the first Little Panthers Oratorical Contest.
