Dr. Shahriari is a member of the American Finance Association and the Financial Management Association. He has instructed courses and workshops in Managerial Finance, Applied Corporate Finance, International Finance, Money and Banking, System Analysis, and Production Management.

Why Attend the Seminar: This seminar will provide a critical overview of bitcoin and the underlying mechanics and technologies. Session 1 (Basic) will introduce cryptocurrencies and discuss the mechanics of bitcoin, how to store and use bitcoins, decentralization (distributed ledger) and anonymity, bitcoin mining, cryptocurrency investing, and altcoins (Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Ripple, etc.). Session 2 (Intermediate) will focus on the blockchain technology and discuss smart contracts, blockchain benefits, using blockchain in practice, cryptocurrencies and blockchain in fintech, regulation, and the future of bitcoin.

Who Should Attend: Professionals and academics who are new to cryptocurrencies and the blockchain technology, and are interested in learning more. Academics who would like to add bitcoin and blockchain to their curriculum. Managers and professionals who are interested in leveraging blockchain in their business.

General Topics for Session 1 (Basic):

  • What is the history of bitcoin, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies?
  • How does bitcoin work? How is it stored, retrieved, and used?
  • Is bitcoin the future of money? What is the intrinsic value of bitcoin?
  • How does bitcoin achieve decentralization? What is a distributed ledger?
  • Are bitcoin transactions secure? Are they anonymous?
  • What is the difference between bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies?
  • What is cryptocurrency mining? How does it actually work?

General Topics for Session 2 (Intermediate):

  • What is blockchain technology? How is it a new technology?
  • Who is using blockchain technology? What are the benefits of blockchain?
  • What are the limitations and dangers of blockchain?
  • What are smart contracts? How do they work?
  • How is blockchain technology currently regulated?
  • What is the future of blockchain and cryptocurrencies?

 Session 1 (Basic): Saturday, September 8, 2018, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

 Session 2 (Intermediate): Saturday, September 8, 2018, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

 Registration Fee: $150 for both sessions and $100 for one session

 Registration Deadline: September 6, 2018 or until the maximum seating capacity is reached
