January 13 – Prairie View Mayor David Allen continues to act as an economic ambassador in his relentless efforts to promote the city and Prairie View A&M University. Over the holiday break, Allen embarked on a trip to Vietnam that has resulted in new opportunities.

A new business has blossomed between the city, the university, and Kim Ngan Orchid JLC in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Allen announced, “After an 18-month collaboration and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Prairie View and Prairie View A&M College of Agriculture, I am pleased to announce this million-dollar investment, which will bring jobs and more positive things to Prairie View.”

The effort which involves the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences’ Cooperative Agricultural Research Center’s Research Leader in Plant Systems, Aruna Weerasooriya, Ph.D., has resulted in a new agricultural business coming to the city and PVAMU.

The CAHS will play an intricate role in the research and educational aspect of the project, which promises to combine commercial development with floriculture business to the city and the new academic and research programs to the university.

The project will also provide opportunities to the limited resource farmers as well as provide training/internships to PVAMU students.
