Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

February 18 – Tax season is here, and despite the expected delays the recent government shutdown may have caused, tax experts urge you to file your returns as soon as possible. And if you’re like a lot of people, you may need assistance. Prairie View A&M University’s College of Agriculture and Human Sciences is teaming up with the College of Business to offer free tax preparation.

Community and Economic Development (CED) Program Specialist Bridget Ross said the free tax prep service is available to anyone in need. “This program is free and open to the public.” Ross added, “This service is ideal for households with a maximum salary of 50 thousand dollars. The volunteer preparers won’t turn anyone in need away, but the focus is intended to assist those who may have limited resources and few other options.” The program is housed in the Carden-Waller Cooperative Extension Building located at 250 E.M Norris Street on Prairie View’s campus.

All preparers are certified annually by the Internal Revenue Services and are supervised by PVAMU’s College of Business CPAs.  If you are in need or know anyone who needs assistance with their tax preparation, you’re urged to schedule an appointment. This Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) will run Tuesdays and Thursdays through March 27th from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

For more information about this service, contact Bridget Ross to schedule an appointment and find out the necessary documents.
