We use different types and rates of organic amendments (chicken manure, dairy manure, and biochar) and cover crop to assess soil health indicators. We have been monitoring the soil’s physical (bulk density, porosity, and infiltration rate), chemical (pH, macro and micronutrients), and biological (CO2 flux) indicators. Besides, we will analyze soil compaction, water retention curve, aggregate stability, and soil organic carbon fractions. Using these soil health indicators, we will develop algorithms for predicting soil health under various soil management and cropping systems using Machine Learning and AI techniques. We also assess soil health (soil health and environmental benefits of cover crops, soil compaction, soil density, soil crust development, etc.) in upland and riparian buffer.
