Ag Day On The Hill at Prairie View A&M University has a long and storied history of more than 35-years as an event for agriculture producers and members of the community to get an on-campus, first-hand experience with the ag researchers, program specialists, and other ag professionals within the College of Agriculture Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR).

Averaging more than 300 participants, Ag Day On The Hill is held annually, with the exception of its pause from 2020 to 2022, and has evolved over the years, giving participants a new, timely, and relevant experience each time.

This family-friendly event is highly popular with attendees who get to engage in unique experiential learning-based workshops. The K-12 youth participate in introductory and skill-building demonstrations and programs on Day 1, while the adults engage in producer-focused ag workshops, farm demonstrations, and business networking on Day 2.

Activities are held at various locations across the Prairie View A&M University main campus, including the Carden-Waller Cooperative Extension Building, Cooperative Agricultural Research Center, Agriculture-Business Multipurpose Building and Pavilion, May Hall, and the Governor Bill and Vara Daniel Farm, to name a few.

Purpose

Ag Day On The Hill provides Prairie View A&M University College of Agriculture Food and Natural resources (CAFNR) an opportunity to engage with producers, youth, and members of our local communities and to highlight the work done in agriculture research, academics and extension. During Ag Day On The Hill, ag researchers, program specialists, faculty and staff work collaboratively to bring various aspects of agriculture to local agriculture producers, members of the community, and K-12 youth through hands-on demonstrations, experiential learning, and more.

Through Ag Day On The Hill, CAFNR showcase to the community, the Greater Houston area, and to schools from Pre-K to high school the importance of agriculture, where our food comes from, and the connection between agriculture and health.

Ag Day On The Hill encompasses two days of activities. Day 1 is youth-focused (K-12) where students participate in educational workshops, many of which involve hands-on learning experiences to teach the relevance of agriculture in our daily lives

Day 2 is adult-focused and geared toward farmers, ranchers, and other ag producers with the objective being to provide researched-based education and best practices related to agriculture to better equip them in their operation of their ag businesses.

In addition to gaining vital information, students and producers alike will also enjoy the fun and camaraderie that comes with Ag Day On The Hill. What better way to make new connections and grow your network than Ag Day On The Hill?
