Prairie View A&M University proudly announces that Kimberly M. Gay, Head of Reference and Information Services and Academic Reference & Instruction Librarian II at the John B. Coleman Library, presented at the Hawai‘i Library Association (HLA) Annual Conference in Honolulu, Hawai‘i this month—becoming the first HBCU academic librarian to present at the HLA Conference. 

Ms. Gay’s presentation was titled Woven Together: Academic, School, Public and Specialty Libraries and Librarians Cultivating Community, Culture, and Collaboration through Experiential Learning from STEM to STEAgM—Infusing Agriculture and Foodscaping to Foster Interdisciplinary Partnership. You can view the workshop information here. Her seminar demonstrated how libraries serve as powerful hubs for research, innovation, interdisciplinary teaching, and community connection.  

During her time in Hawai’i, Ms. Gay was lead on guided tours around the agricultural sides of the entire island. From visiting the original DOLE Pineapple Plantation to the Coffee and Macadamia Farms and visiting the various Hawai’i library systems, Ms. Gay was able to see interconnects of how PVAMU continues to thrive in demonstrating its farming and ranching initiatives.
