The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program provides scholarships to students pursuing a degree in any agricultural field and other related disciplines at any of the 1890 Land-Grant Institutions. The scholarship award covers the cost of all tuition, fees, books, room, and board for up to four years for these deserving students.  It also provides a paid internship each summer while pursuing a bachelor’s degree.  Recipients are required to work one for each year benefits are received.

During the trip, the students participated in informative sessions on Conflict Resolution, Ethics, Diversity Inclusion, the Importance of Mentorship, Authentic Pride and Self-awareness, and Leadership, among other topics.  Mr. Hodge presented the history of the scholarship program, covering its inception (1992) to the present.

In addition to the session, the students visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which was a unique opportunity to learn about the rich history of African Americans in the United States. We are proud of these students for their hard work and dedication and wish them all the best as they take on their new roles as National Scholars.
