Mission, TX –Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) Extension Agent Rina Castillo hosted the “Get HUB Certified” workshop on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the Hidalgo Precinct 3 Meeting Hall in collaboration with the Palmview Chamber of Commerce. The event aimed to support local businesses in attaining Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) certification, a crucial step in accessing contracting opportunities in Texas.
The Texas HUB Program plays a pivotal role in creating equitable business opportunities for all certified HUBs, striving to rectify disparities in state procurement and contracting. PVAMU Extension’s free workshop provided attendees with comprehensive insights into the significance of HUB certification for their businesses. Participants received guidance on navigating the application process, ensuring a smooth and successful certification experience.
“We are thrilled to have facilitated this workshop in partnership with the Palmview Chamber of Commerce,” said Rina Castillo, Community and Economic Development Agent for Hidalgo and Starr Counties. “It’s inspiring to see local businesses eager to take advantage of the opportunities offered through HUB certification, and we are committed to continuing to support their growth and success.”
The workshop attracted a diverse group of entrepreneurs and business owners seeking to enhance their opportunities in state bid contracting. By becoming HUB certified, businesses gain access to a multitude of contracting opportunities and contribute to the promotion of diversity and inclusion in the marketplace.
One small business owner, Maria Hernandez, expressed her gratitude for the workshop, stating, “Attending the ‘Get HUB Certified’ workshop was a game-changer for my business. The insights and support provided by PVAMU Extension, and the Palmview Chamber of Commerce were invaluable. I’m excited to start the certification process and expand my business’s opportunities.”
