On October 21, PVAMU Wellness in Houston partnered with Mading Elementary School in Houston, TX to host a Community Fall Festival. On Tuesdays, Family and Community Health (FCH) Extension Associate, Jamyah Hill, leads the Choose Health: Food, Fun, Fitness (CHFFF) curriculum at Mading and shared her knowledge with the community to improve healthy self-care practices and expand awareness of nutritional and health services available to families. Attendees received information on local health and crime prevention services through the Harris County Public Health department, health and early childhood development services through Houston Independent School District (HISD), goodies, food, games, prizes and more.
PVAMU Wellness in Houston had three stations set up as well. The pumpkin patch was for pictures, but attendees also received gardening tips and information about planting seasons. A painting station that allowed attendees to create and receive information on healthy coping mechanisms for mental health and the benefits of painting for children. The last station provided nutritional education to families. The team provided spooky trail mix snacks and allowed attendees to learn about the nutrition facts labels on the products in the trail mix.
