Prairie View A&M University’s Wellness in Houston hosted a Meet and Greet at the College of Nursing in honor of World Mental Health Day on October 10, 2022. The theme was “Mental Health and Wellbeing becomes a Global Priority for all.”
Faculty, students, and staff from the college used the event as an opportunity to connect by discussing how to protect and improve our mental health. Family and Community Health Extension Associate Teisha Holliman demonstrated how to make a healthy berry smoothie and trail mix using chocolate as one of the ingredients. Family and Community Extension Associate, Jamyah Hill, hosted a healthy activity on mental health.
A PVAMU Wellness College of Nursing representative helped identify intervention strategies for self-care related to diabetes, blood pressure, and other common health conditions in the Greater Houston area. Students were able to learn more about volunteer opportunities and sign up for the Mental Youth Aid Training Program by 4H Youth Development. The event was a great success, and we are excited to bring resources from the College of Nursing to the community.
