November 15 – After a one-year break due to the coronavirus pandemic, nearly 200 agriculture alumni and friends returned to “The Hill” to take part in a scaled-back version of the traditional homecoming festivities, including the annual Lindsey Weatherspoon Agriculture Breakfast.

Prairie View A&M University’s (PVAMU) College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS) has hosted this breakfast for more than 30 years as a way to reunite alumni with current faculty, staff, and students. The primary focus is to raise funds for the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences to fund scholarships, training and research equipment, and community programs.

CAHS Student Government Association (SGA) Senator, Paige Dixon, opened the breakfast with a welcome and served as the moderator for the remainder of the ceremony.

Dean of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences and Director of Land Grant Programs Gerard D’Souza, Ph.D., greeted the attendees and provided brief updates about the college.

Department of Agriculture, Nutrition and Human Ecology Instructor, TeneInger Abrom Johnson, presented the Lindsey Weatherspoon Progressive Young Professional and the Alfred N. Poindexter Lifetime Professional Achievement awards. This year’s award recipients were Andra Collins-Johnson (’02) and Angela Richardson Woods (’96).

Angela Richardson Woods, Vice President of the Prairie View Agriculture Alumni Chapter, presented two checks totaling $2000 for student scholarships.

“This year, the breakfast fed 190 alumni, faculty, staff, and students,” Johnson said. “Many alums expressed their excitement about being back since the pandemic started. It was nice to see everyone return for the Lindsey Weatherspoon Breakfast.”

Immediately following the breakfast, attendees headed to University Drive to watch the annual homecoming parade featuring the CAHS Float, designed by our students, faculty, and staff.

CAHS faculty members Ms. Johnson and Jacklyn Sanders led efforts to organize this event.
