PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (March 28, 2023) – As the April 17 tax deadline looms, Prairie View A&M University students, faculty and staff, and surrounding community members again have access to free income tax preparation provided by the PVAMU College of Business’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

Serving the community for more than 15 years, this year’s VITA program is staffed by 13 volunteer undergraduate and graduate students and staff and faculty members who have been trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service. The volunteers will be on hand during allotted hours to help taxpayers complete their taxes and e-file completed returns.

“VITA is a great program that benefits community members while enriching PVAMU’s College of Business,” said Priscilla Zhu, DBA, MBA, CPA and instructor at PVAMU. “We want to reach as many people as possible, especially those who are eligible for an income tax credit or refund they might not know about.”

Munir Quddus, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business, added: “There are several aspects of this program that make it so powerful. First, it provides our student learners an opportunity to learn through an ‘experiential learning’ project. Second, it is an opportunity for the faculty and student team to provide an important service to the larger community. Third, the VITA project is aligned with the University and COB’s mission to serve the community as we educate our students; finally, the VITA program speaks to our commitment to equity and inclusion, as with the help of this IRS-supported program, our primary focus is on the low-income households.”

To schedule an appointment or to learn more about PVAMU’s VITA program, contact 936-261-9275 or PVAMU VITA Coordinator Dr. Zhu at przhu@pvamu.edu. Walk-ins are also welcome.
