The AIMS-19 International Conference on Management was organized jointly with the Jaipuria Institute of Management. The theme of this year’s conference, “Management Challenges in the Post-COVID-19 Era,” opens the door for research that examines the “new normal” we face as a society, said Joonas.

“My keynote address, ‘Past and Prologue: A New Look at Management in the Post COVID-19 Era,’ focused on the unique impact of the pandemic on variability, vulnerability, risk and economic levels, affecting a large proportion of the world’s population,” said Joonas. “I highlighted the effectiveness of managerial strategies of organizations from around the world in mitigating the consequences of the global fallout, especially in research areas of supply chain and its acutely impacted sectors, organizational resilience, healthcare and higher education.

In addition, I discussed how organizational learning could be applied to fresh vistas of transformative recovery, which were opened by the new normal, primarily in green innovation.”

Joonas also served at the conference as a marketing sessions chair and delivered a collaborative research presentation with Ahmed Y. Mahfouz, Ph.D., associate professor of management information systems at PVAMU, as well as undergraduate business major Danaja Taylor. Titled “The Impact of COVID-19 on Business and Marketing,” the research offered a review of trade literature covering recent trends in the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on business and marketing, with a concentration on selected products and services, industries, media and advertising, and communications, with a keen focus on online interventions.

“Participation in this conference was a valuable learning experience,” said Joonas. “It helped me to stay current in the field of business research—knowledge that I can readily take into the classroom for improved student learning.”

Joonas said the conference offered plenty of ideas on how current research can be enhanced. The networking opportunities with scholars from around the world will also prove to be invaluable.

“Although research is very demanding, it is also very fulfilling,” said Joonas. “I am grateful to PVAMU for the support of my research activities over the years.”
