Overview: The Occupational Health Program (OHP) at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) ensures the health and safety of all employees working in environments that pose potential health risks. Key Components:

  1. Health Risk Assessments:
    • Conducted for employees working with research animals, in lab safety programs, or engaging in higher-risk work activities.
    • Health risk counseling is available for issues that might impact job functions.
  1. Medical Clearance and Fit Testing:
    • Essential for employees required to use respiratory protection.
    • Includes a medical questionnaire and fit tests to ensure proper use and effectiveness of respiratory equipment.
  1. Vaccinations and Screenings:
    • Job-specific TB screening, drug testing, and vaccinations are provided to employees as required by their job functions.
    • Vaccinations and titers are part of maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
  1. Enrollment in OHP:
    • New employees working in environments with potential health risks must complete the OHP Health Assessment Questionnaire or by reaching out to RMS at OHP@pvamu.edu or 9362611747.
    • Recurring enrollment and updates are required periodically, with frequency depending on the risk level of the work environment.

The Occupational Health Program (OHP) at Prairie View A&M supports employees and students that work with animals, biological materials, and other potential hazards.  OHP promotes health and safety by identifying and mitigating risks through education, prevention, medical screening, and monitoring.
