PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (April 25, 2025)The School of Architecture at Prairie View A&M University proudly welcomed Sir David Adjaye OM OBE for a distinguished guest lecture earlier this month. The auditorium of the school’s building was filled with students, faculty, and guests eager to engage with one of the most influential figures in contemporary architecture.

Sir Adjaye, a Ghanaian-British architect and founder of Adjaye Associates, is internationally recognized for his visionary designs, including the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., and the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi. His accolades include being knighted in 2017 and receiving both the RIBA Royal Gold Medal (2021) and appointment to the Order of Merit (2022).

In addition to the main lecture, the day featured a series of curated sessions aimed at creating meaningful dialogue between Sir Adjaye and the PVAMU community. These included a private lunch with student leaders and a graduate-level roundtable discussion.

“The School of Architecture was honored and truly excited to host Sir David Adjaye OM OBE,” said Bill Price, Brown Endowed Chair, Graduate Coordinator, and Associate Professor at PVAMU. “His visit presented a rare and meaningful opportunity for our students to engage directly with one of the most influential architects of our time. We organized three special sessions—a lunch with student leaders, an all-school lecture, and a graduate roundtable—each designed to foster dialogue and reflection. Students gained insight not only into Sir David’s extraordinary body of work but also into the values, vision, and responsibility embedded in architectural practice today.”

The event emphasized the School of Architecture’s commitment to expanding the perspectives of future architects through transformative learning experiences. Sir Adjaye’s visit sparked thoughtful conversations about design, equity, heritage, and global responsibility in the built environment.
