PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Jan. 23, 2026) – The PVAMU Emergency Management Team, public safety partners, and the National Weather Service are closely monitoring the weather conditions. This system is expected to pass through Waller and Harris Counties on Saturday evening, bringing multiple days of below-freezing temperatures and the potential for wintry precipitation. While it is too early to determine the exact impact, we advise everyone to prepare for possible disruptions. Employees are encouraged to take their laptops and any relevant work materials home to prepare for the potential of remote work if necessitated by the weather. Students should monitor emails and/or official PVAMU social media sites for up-to-date information regarding the status of their classes. Information regarding campus meal options will also be provided.
Should there be changes to operations at any PVAMU campus, updates will be provided through the PVAMU homepage (pvamu.edu), official social media platforms, mass email (@pvamu.edu), and Panther Alert notifications via phone calls and text messages. Please also stay tuned to local news outlets for the latest information.
To stay safe during freezing conditions, remember to:
- Let faucets drip slowly to prevent pipes from freezing.
- Ensure your emergency supplies include non-perishable food, water, and an updated first aid kit.
- Ensure you have warm clothing and blankets.
- Charge electronic devices in advance and have multiple ways to receive weather updates.
- Use alternative heat sources safely and with proper ventilation.
- Limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and stay dry if you must be outside.
- Avoid travel if possible; if necessary, check road conditions at DriveTexas.org and allow extra time.
Stay safe and prepared, Panthers.
