Kristen Wells-Lewis, a Beaumont, Texas native has been named the 2015 PVAMU Student Humanitarian Award recipient. The award is one of the highest honors PVAMU bestows upon students and community members who display a passion for serving their communities and helping others.

Wells-Lewis received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry with a Biomedical concentration from Prairie View A&M University in August 2015. Throughout her tenure as a student at Prairie View A&M University, she has obtained valuable leadership and administrative skills by working as an intern for the Vice President of Administration, serving as a senator in the Student Government Association for the College of Arts and Sciences, and serving as Vice President of the Undergraduate Pharmacy Club. Her leadership skills catapulted when she was initiated into the Eta Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. As a result of her tenacity and zeal in creating many community service programs for the chapter, Kristen was awarded Soror of the Semester in Fall 2012 and was later elected President of the Eta Beta Chapter in 2013. Her commitment to service was recognized at a national level where she was appointed to the National Membership Services Committee for the 2013 – 2015 biennium by Dr. Paulette C. Walker, National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In addition, Kristen’s leadership skills and passion for public service were noted throughout the Southwest Region of Delta Sigma Theta and she was elected to the position of Regional Representative which is the first time a member of the Eta Beta Chapter has ever attained this title.

As the Southwest Regional Representative of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Kristen manages 57 collegiate chapters throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Jamaica. She was also the Regional Team Captain for the Futures Without Violence Organization, a mentor for 3D Math Academy where she tutored children in mathematical concepts and principles. She is a member of the Pilot Club International, Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students, Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, and the American Cancer Society-Colleges Against Cancer.

Kristen Wells-Lewis plans to further her education and serve the community through advocacy on policy driven changes in healthcare, education, and economics. She plans to bring her goals to fruition and work for the Center of Disease Control and Prevention with hopes of aiding the government in their mission to save and protect Global and Environmental Health, Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and Prevention methods as part of the effort to better this world for our children.
