PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (November 9, 2020) – Corporate executives and industry leaders will convene virtually on Monday evening to share their priceless business experience with Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) students.

The College of Business’ Business Law Association (BLA), along with the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), are sponsoring the conversation entitled Corporate Directors: Who They Are, What They Do, and Contemporary Challenges, which begins at 6:30 p.m.

“This event was first planned in the spring but was postponed due to COVID-19. We strategically came up with this event to be held in the last term of 2020 as a way to introduce BLA to Prairie View and to host an event where students could get their questions answered about all things relating to the law of corporate governance, what directors actually do, how they are organized, and major issues such as cybersecurity,” said BLA President and junior business management major Morgan Stewart.

Tonight’s speakers include:

  • PVAMU President Ruth J. Simmons (Goldman Sachs; Mondelez International; Fiat Chrysler; Texas Instruments; Square)
  • Seletha Butler (Saint Joseph’s Health System; MedShare; Truist)
  • Frederick Chang (Southern Methodist University; National Security Agency; Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th Presidency; Intelligence Community Studies Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine)
  • Michele Hooper (UnitedHealth; PPG Industries; AstraZeneca; Target; Warner Music Group); and
  • Ron McCray (Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board; A.H. Belo Corporation; Kimberly-Clark; Nike)

The event will be moderated by Larry Trautman, an associate professor of business law and ethics in PVAMU’s College of Business, who currently holds dozens of directorships of his own.

“Students should attend for many reasons,” said Stewart. “They will be able to learn more about corporate directors, the risks that come along with having a business, and they will gain more insight on the roles that each panelist has had over the years. Not to mention, this event creates a networking experience for all students who attend. We see this as an opportunity to learn first-hand about contemporary issues from our present-day leaders. This interaction will both educate students and expose them to possible career pathways, which will, in turn, aid in their further successes.”
