PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (February 18, 2020) – The College of Business at Prairie View A&M University takes center stage in the third episode of The Overview, a podcast spearheaded by the Office of Marketing and Communications in conjunction with KPVU 91.3 FM.

In the Dean’s Desk, Munir Quddus, Ph.D., tells about the strategic moves he and his faculty have executed to elevate the college’s undergraduate and graduate programs.

“We have received a lot of support from our friends and alumni…almost ten endowed scholarships of nearly $3 million have been received. A number of professors have received prestigious grants: the NSF [National Science Foundation] and the [Office of] Homeland Security,” Quddus said.

Finance Assistant Professor Danny Harvey shares exciting news about the Certified Financial Planning (CFP) minor at PVAMU. Six courses comprise the newly-approved Certified Financial Planning Certification Program.

Harvey said, “We are recognized by the CFP Board, which means when a student completes the minor, they’re academically eligible to sit for the CFP Exam, which takes the student’s career to another level. The minor is open to all majors, even though it is housed in the College of Business.”

You’ll also hear from two undergraduates in the CFP minor program who were chosen as national scholars by the Association of African American Financial Advisors Foundation. Daa’iyah Ford and Kameron Kindle are the first two PVAMU students to be named LeCount R. Davis, CFP® and Jewel W. Davis Scholars. Davis was the first African American to earn the Certified Financial Planner™ designation.

In the Alumni Avenue segment, you’ll hear from Rahni Johnson, who earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in marketing in 2015. She now works as a technical business development specialist at Sandia National Laboratories and three Tier One universities.

“One of my major responsibilities is creating innovative ways is to build a pipeline between the institutions that I support and Sandia, which is very interested in the research and creativeness that students have and their willingness to go into national security,” Johnson shared.

Frank Shields, MBA 2009, concentrated on finance during his studies at PVAMU. He operates a Houston-based financial planning and investment management services firm.

“While pursuing my graduate degree, I routinely had access to the program director and faculty who challenged me both intellectually and professionally. This unparalleled support resulted in a publication in the Journal of Organizational Culture, Communications and Conflict, authored by myself and three of my MBA colleagues,” Shields said.

Dr. Mathew Knowles

Dr. Mathew Knowles teaches in a classroom at PVAMU.

Rochelle Dorn-Hayes earned a BBA in Management from the COB and the Benjamin Banneker Honors College in 1992. She later earned an MBA from Purdue University and a Juris Doctorate at Tulane University School of Law.

“The College of Business’ mandate of a strong work ethic, great scrutiny of our work product, and in one of my classes, authoring a book, developed my love of research and were key to my becoming an editor for a comparative law textbook and passing the bar in two states,” said Dorn-Hayes, who now works at Ford Motor Company in Michigan.

And there’s a unique twist in the Panther Perspective, a segment for current students at PVAMU. The world may know him as the creator of Destiny’s Child, but several Panthers know him as “Dr. Mathew Knowles.” The CEO of Music World Entertainment is co-teaching in the COB.

“My goal in the classroom, foremost, is to teach critical thinking. It’s my passion to motivate and to educate but also to let these young, bright students know that they can be great,” Knowles said.
