On the opening day of the 2018 Outdoor Track & Field SWAC Championship, Prairie View A&M sophomore Brianna Robinson broke the SWAC record in the pole vault. 
 
The record for the pole vault was broken after Robinson made her first attempt at 3.40m.  She continued jumping, taking first place after jumping a final mark of 3.53m.  The Prairie View A&M stadium record was recently held by Robinson’s teammate Lakeydra Mosley, who finished third in the pole vault with a 3.21m mark.  Mosley posted a 2.98m stadium record during the 2017 PV Relays.
 
Camryn Ridge placed fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.21m and Tyla Bryant finished eighth with a vault of 3.01m to cap off the pole vault event.  In the women’s 10,000 meter run, Jovana Espinoza placed fifth with a time of 42.37.76 for the Lady Panthers.  Her teammate Aimee Hernandez placed eight with a time of 44.02.53.
 

The Prairie View A&M Lady Panther track and field team finished in second with 146 points on the final day of the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships behind Alabama State. 
 
The Lady Panthers finished in front of third-place finishers Arkansas-Pine Bluff & Grambling State, which were tied with 78 points apiece.  Alcorn State placed fifth with 69 points, Miss. Valley had 64, while Texas Southern finished in seventh (63), Southern placed eighth (55), Jackson State (26), and Alabama A&M (21) rounded out the last two finishing spots.

Kaizha Roberts earned her second gold medal of the meet, winning the women’s triple jump. Roberts cleared 12.18 meters to win, while Devynn King earned bronze for the Lady Panthers.

Nekiesha Bailey took home the gold medal in the women’s high jump (1.75m), with teammate Ja’Sha Sloan (1.71m) placed second. Prairie View took second in the 4×100 meter relay with the time of 45.17.

Deonca Bookman took the 100-meter hurdles, with the time 13.52.  Dinah Murphy placed second to win the silver with a time of 2:14.35 in the 800m.  During the 400-meter hurdles, defending champion Bookman caught her foot on the hurdle, falling during the home stretch, but was able to recover to finish second with a time of 59.39. 

In the final event of the day, Prairie View A&M placed second in the 4×400-meter relay after posting a time of 3:40.65.
 
Selected Lady Panthers will return to action in the NCAA West Regionals to be held in Sacramento, Calif., May 24-26.
