The 2015 PVAMU Honda Campus All-Star Challenge team brought home its second championship title, and a $50,000 institutional grant from Honda to support academic programs on campus.

This year’s road to the championship began in the fall 2014, with Prairie View A&M University and 75 other HBCUs vying for the final 48 slots. Through countless hours of study, drills and practice, elite teams emerged, knowledgeable and ready to take on competition.

Under the direction of Coach Herbert Thomas, the team comprised of students Chayse Lavallais, Brannon A. Billings, Shahryar Syed, Eric Cole Johnston, and team captain, Joseph Dowell.

Honda Campus All-Star Challenge is one of Honda’s largest and longest running philanthropic initiatives in the United States. Since 1989, the program has awarded more than $7.5 million in grants to participating HBCUs, impacting the lives of over 100,000 students across 22 states. This marks the 26th consecutive year that PVAMU has competed in the competition, the 20th time the team has qualified for the National Championship Tournament. Throughout the years, PVAMU has won a total of $136,000 in grant funding.
