Jaquavous Doucette

It is with great pride and excitement that I share an outstanding achievement for our university community: Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Jaquavous Doucette as the student regent for the Texas A&M University System for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Jaquavous is only the second student from Prairie View A&M University to receive this prestigious appointment, and he embodies the spirit of Panther excellence in every way. A senior majoring in mass communications with a minor in criminal justice, he is a first-generation college student whose journey began in Orlando, Florida, and took root in Fort Worth, Texas, before flourishing here at PVAMU.

Throughout his time on campus, Jaquavous has consistently demonstrated dynamic leadership, a deep commitment to service, and an unwavering drive to uplift his peers. His contributions include serving as director of the Campus Activities Board, Mister Sophomore, and deputy chief of staff in the 2024-2025 Student Government Association Administration. Most recently, he was elected by his peers to serve as SGA president for the 2025–2026 academic year—a testament to the trust and admiration he’s earned from the student body.

In 2024, Jaquavous was also recognized nationally as an AT&T Rising Future Maker, an honor given to students making meaningful impacts in their communities and blazing trails for the next generation of leaders.

Each year, the chancellor of the Texas A&M University System recommends at least two student candidates for regent to the governor, chosen from applications submitted across all participating universities. The student regent serves a one-year term, from June 1 to May 31, attending board meetings and providing an invaluable student perspective. While the role is uncompensated, regents are reimbursed for expenses incurred during official duties.

Please join me in congratulating Jaquavous Doucette on this extraordinary achievement. His appointment not only reflects his personal excellence but also shines a spotlight on the power, promise and potential of the PVAMU student body. We are proud to see one of our own stepping into a role that represents the voices of more than 150,000 students across the A&M System.

Way to go, Jaquavous—you make Panther Nation proud!
