PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (July 8, 2026) — Prairie View A&M University captured The Texas A&M University System Showdown’s inaugural overall championship, marking a historic achievement for the University’s spirit program.

The inaugural competition brought together spirit teams from across The Texas A&M University System this spring to showcase athleticism, technical skill, precision and school spirit. The Panther Dolls earned unanimous first-place rankings from all three judges for their Pom routine, while the cheer team secured second place in the Gameday division.

The Panther Dolls’ championship performance reflected months of preparation, discipline and teamwork as the team delivered a routine featuring synchronized formations, technical precision, and dynamic choreography. The PVAMU cheer team also contributed to the historic finish with a 2-minute, 30-second routine showcasing stunting, crowd-leading skills, and athleticism.

Combined scores from both teams gave PVAMU the highest overall score in the competition, making the Panthers the first overall champions in The Texas A&M University System Showdown history.

The championship capped a year of dedication from the Panther Dolls and cheer team as they supported Panther Athletics, represented the University at campus events, and prepared for the inaugural systemwide competition.

“This championship is a testament to the hard work, determination and commitment of every student-athlete, coach and supporter who contributed to our success,” said Head Coach Jim Price. “After spending the season cheering on others, this was our moment to shine, and our teams rose to the occasion in historic fashion.”

The teams were led by Coach Price and assistant coaches Kiamesha White, Jatavia Callier, and Shanyia Martell.

Texas A&M University-San Antonio is expected to host The Texas A&M University System Showdown again next year. As the inaugural overall champions, the Panthers will return looking to defend their title and continue building on the success of the University’s spirit program.
